Elrond's Request

Description

My take on something from LotR Appendix.

When Lord Elrond noticed his young fosterling's affection for his daughter, he brought Aragorn to a heart-to-heart, and made it clear that Arwen would marry no lesser man than King of Arnor and Gondor. I interpret this request as Elrond's way of ensuring both Arwen and Aragorn being well-provided, not that he's selfishly withholding his daughter, though it is true that he wants Arwen married to a worthy man. I think even back then Elrond has a sense that he would leave one day, and ever since his wife sailed his heart jas been more turned to the West. If Arwen chooses for her mortal love, as she actually does, he will suffer a lasting separation from his lovely girl, and he personally can do nothing about it but to help improve her chances of peace and happiness during her life. And Aragorn is like another son to him, nurtured with his love and wisdom. When Elrond speaks his request, he is actually believing the young man will make it in time, and trying to convince Aragorn of it.

And I hope my Aradorn does look like 20 years old. It has been time since I last drew young man...

I like your interpretation in this! I really love the story of Aragorn and Arwen! When I read about their conversation and when Aragorn said to Elrond:"yet the years of your abiding run short at last, the choice must soon be laid on your children, to part either with you or with middle-earth." I always feel Aragron was trying to say:"I can't help falling in love with your daughter I am so sorry but she will very likely be mine." (and I thought "oh Aragorn how can you say this!") and Elrond on the other hand was rather concerned about what kind of man her daughter should marry…… He had to secure the future of these two, so Aragorn had to be the best of living man. I guess they must made the "best middle-earth couple" when they got married. XD
(but to think of the end of the story……Waaaah!…… it' just impossible to be "happily ever after" in Tolkien's world……)
